How my recipes benefit: Bariatric Surgery

The result of Bariatric surgery to lose weight is a malabsorption syndrome which causes a person to be unable to tolerate sugar or fat. My recipes greatly benefit these people as I have avoided the sugars and fats they are unable to tolerate. I use honey and it is not metabolized by the body in the same way that refined sugars are metabolized. Also, the amount of honey in each small portion is low, and I believe should not cause a digestive problem for bariatric patients.

Maintaining good nutrition is a challenge for these people who have taken severe measures to lose weight. Since food can only be eaten in small amounts, I believe it is important to eat frequently, about every two hours. It is also important to eat natural foods high in nutrition. My recipes use ingredients that are familiar to everyone.

As many people have learned, no matter what doctor you see for any particular problem, most doctors know very little about nutrition. This is because they are not nutritionists, but should be. In March 2003, Dr. Andrew Weil appeared on the Larry King show and stated that he went to Harvard medical school and received about 30 minutes of training in nutrition. He said that nutrition was considered to be on the level of home economics. This is astounding to me because common sense dictates that health is based on nutrition.

Over 60% of Americans are overweight and many are unfortunately turning to Bariatric surgery. The bodies of younger people in their 20's or 30's, can manufacture enough from inadequate nutrition to maintain minimal good health. But older people, in their 40's or older cannot do this as well. They become nutritionally compromised and symptomatic. I've known people who have even suffered hair loss. People don't yet realize that it's the consumption of man-made foods that is causing the obesity, no matter what emotional problems you may have. Many bodies can't handle unnatural food containing additives, trans fatty acids, hydrogenated oils, and refined sugar. Eliminate these foods, use my recipes as a guide, and the weight and health problems will disappear.
